Fooling with Shading - Shadows

We went to the local farmers' market yesterday. Since I am from the South, I was delighted to see fresh okra. I promply brought it home with other items. I don't care for it boiled as the texture is too viscous. However, I do love it coated in cornmeal and fried. It's almost like popcorn. I saved a couple to draw. Overnight one of the roses in a vase near it shattered, so I drew a couple of those petals as well. Used colored pencils to color and was unable to get the really light pink for the one. I was practicing and playing around with different types of hatchmarks for shadows.

  1. The rose petals look very delicate! I like the balance they add to the drawing. I with you on okra (my Grandmother is from the south, so we ate okra at her home, I like it fried but won't touch it boiled!

  4. I love this drawing. The little thumbnail doesn't do it justice. It's really beautiful and vibrant in the larger size.
