Swirl Technique for Photo Art Friday

I tried a new fun technique which only takes a couple minutes.  It's somewhat addictive.  For a tutorial go to Steve's blog and follow his easy instructions.

Run your mouse over the image and see the before shot.  Actually I had more of a challenge getting the "mouseover" technique to work than I did making the "swirl".  I watched Kim Klassen's tutorial on the mouseover.  I had done it before on a couple of my photos, but I was never able to do it again.  I would always be in a hurry to get my post up for the challenge and I would just get frustrated.  When I found Kim's tutorial video, I was so excited and thought I would finally get it down.  It did not work! Arghhh!!! Okay, I know HTML is fussy and you absolutely cannot mess with those quotation mark thingies.  I was sure I had everything just so, but no, I did not.  So I started over again and finally it worked, so run your mouse over it 100 times if you wish. I plan to do just that.
Then I decided to tweak this photo a bit more.  The results are below
From top left clockwise
1. Elements of Jupiter texture from PDPA hard light
2. Elements of Jupiter texture color blend
3. Elements of Jupiter texture difference blend
4. Elements of Jupiter plus Bon Jour, ma deuce texture from PDPA pin light blend
Both of these textures were free on Bonnie's website.  Go investigate.

Here's to a great week!

  1. I am still frustrated with the "mouseover" thing.

This twirl effect is very addictive, but I never thought of blending the result with a texture...clever.
    I love the result in No.2 &3.

  3. This created a fun photo. So much to learn with PSE - I feel I am only scratching the surface and why it is so fun to participate in these challenges. You learn so much from others.

  5. Oh my!!! Veritable RIOT of beautiful colors! I, too, played with the Twirl technique, but I didn't quite achieve the great look that you did. There are many wonderful looks in your creation.

  6. I love all these!
Seeing the 'before' photo, I would have never guessed that was the starting point.
I, too, would like to conquer the 'mouse over' code.
Just this morning I read the instructions from http://www.thecoffeeshopblog.com
but don't really have the time today to play with this.
But, I will try the 'mouse over' soon, keeping your comments in mind.
    Thanks!

  7. You've been busy!! The Twirl is so beautiful I almost prefer it without the textures - but I make the textures so I can't say that - right? Like the one textured with Bonjour Ma Douce. Always fun to come here Marilyn. Thanks for sharing on Photo Art Friday!

  8. This is VERY cool BUT....it sure doesn't "sound" easy! You need to give yourself more credit for accomplishing this! Awesome job.

  9. Super fun! Love seeing the "before" and how artsy and abstract it looked. The Swirl though is really fun to look at.
Great job. Will have to check out the links.

  14. Hi Marilyn, I definitely made a point of mousing over the image to see the before! It is kind of a cool little thing to see a before and then an after. I wouldn't mind learning how to do it myself (Although, after reading about your struggles I have my doubts if I can pull it off.) I really like your swirl artworks. The first is my favourite, maybe because it looks like a flower and god knows I like flowers.
