EDM Challenge - Self Portrait

The teeth drove me crazy. Just cannot seem to convey them as I think I see them. But overall, I'm happy with how this turned out. I will do more over time, and it will be interesting to see the changes.

  1. :-D Great smile! Sorry you lost all your earlier comments, but I really like the photo cropped.

  2. I also have trouble with teeth -- they always look like cartoons when I just outline each tooth. Maybe someone can teach us how to do them better! Thanks for posting!

  3. You did a gret job on the portrait, and really caught your own likeness. Hard to do, I think. I took a class from a guy named David Rankin (wonderful watercolorist), who teaches that with things like teeth and nostrils, less is more; the eye fills in a lot of what needs to be "seen." Don't know if that helps, but it has helped me some.

  5. Hi! I found your blog through a post on the EDM site. This is a wonderful portrait; teeth are hard. I used to remind my students to concentrate on the negative space in between teeth to help define them, and to eliminate the picket fence effect.
