Birds of Paradise

I sketched this from a photo I took recently at the Los Angeles Zoo. The background is filled with beautiful bamboo, but I decided I wanted the birds to be the focal point without distraction. Birds of Paradise are one of my favorites -- I really like their structure and color.

  3. Marilyn, these are great! I love that bright colour and strong shapes. I think the sketched but uncoloured background accentuates the shape and colour - lovely!

  4. What a lovely contrast between the B/W and colour. They really play against each other and make the foreground colour so much stronger while keeping the background interesting. Hmmm...wonder where else this idea might work?
