Living Room Hearth

I started out drawing the tarnished copper vessel with the fireplace wood but kept going and drew the oriental blue and white porcelain vase and part of the fireplace screen. It's akin to remodeling. You change one thing and then you see that you need to change whatever's next to it.....

Door Knobs

These are various knobs around the house. I'm sure I can find many more. It seems there are knobs on just about everything. The most challenging thing for me is to capture the curve of the slider knob as it juts out from the top base.

This is pretty typical of my art before I started drawing in December.

Time vs Money

I did this after I decided to be a stay at home artist.

My interpretation of faith after I learned of my son's illness

Local Landmark

I think I got confused and thought this was going to be our next challenge. But then I went back and saw Karen's posting was Challenge #41. Oh well, I needed to draw something. This was not one of my better drawing days - Those angles really are difficult for me. This Laguna Beach lifeguard tower has been on the main beach since 1929. It has withstood many storms. Over the years, it has been 'remodeled' but it is truly a landmark.

Reflection Lake

Last year I returned to Chattanooga, TN for a high school reuinion. This picture was taken at the Nature Preserve at the foot of Lookout Mountain. Such a lovely setting. After living in California for many years, I had forgotten how green and beautiful Tennessee is.

McCharles House Tearoom

Another door....Every year McCharles House, an old Victorian home which has been converted into a tearoom, decorates magnificently for Christmas. My oldest granddaughter and I have a tradition -- for her birthday I take her to their Christmas tea where we indulge in their "St. Nicholas" tea and devour all their goodies.

Blue Door

I have a passion for doors. This one in my neighborhood is actually being used as a gate into a courtyard. The wall is stucco. I think the use is so unusual and I really like the color

Hot Hot Hot

I use this so much - a definite necessity for someone who wants instant gratification. I always want things to dry in a hurry so I can proceed.

EDM Challenge 53

This is my version - there are so many mouths and all kinds of teeth - this was fun.

EDM #13

My trusty cell proved a real challenge - still cannot get those angles the way I want them.

My Love

EDM Challenge #54

A drawing of my husband napping on the sofa. This was one of my first attempts to draw a human body! I think I'm pleased. Comments invited.

Family Room

This was for the challenge -- 'first thing you see when you walk in the front door'. I had to do this twice -- still did not get the perspective quite right. So many angles. The bar stools look like they are drunk!

Infamous Celebrity

This was a pencil drawing. I don't have the skill to do this shading with pen & ink. But it was such fun drawing this from a newspaper pic.

Glam Girl

I call her my glam girl. Somewhere I read that all a woman needs to get along in this life is big gold earrings and red nails.

Two Cups Sugar, One Cup Butter

The T.V. challenge. I do love to cook and so does Ina Garten on The Barefoot Contessa. My husband calls her show the 2 cups sugar, 1 stick butter show, as it seems almost every recipe she does has those ingredients.

The bicycle challenge. I was sitting in the MINI dealership waiting for my car and some employee's bike was just inside the door. I could only see the back wheel because a floating curtain panel hid the rest of it.

Birthday Tulips

From my art journal...three dozen pink tulips for my birthday! They were spectacular.

A beautiful brittle starfish we found while on vacation in Florida. We stayed on Captiva Island where I have never seen so many beautiful shells!

The breakfast challenge. In case you cannot make it out, it's cereal and toast on a placemat.

Martini Angel

She comes around about 5:30pm on certain nights. I call her the Martini Angel

One of our rescues.....Grace, the whippet. I promise her feet don't really look quite like this but this is the way I 'saw' them when I drew this.

The refrigerator challenge. So many items and nothing to eat? Looks like my clothes closet.

The dreaded 'sketch in public' challenge. Sitting in Starbuck's in Santa Monica on a beautiful Southern California day.

The 'foot challenge'. Notice I did my foot in my favorite California dress shoe.

Art Tools

One of the first things I see every morning.

One of my first sketches after reading Danny Gregory's book The Creative License.

This was week #1 challenge. Since I am so new to Everyday Matters, I just pick any challenge and go with it. I call this my "California dress shoe".
