Sunset - Captiva Island

I decided to add a photo of the sunset, one of many we watched when we spent a week on Captiva Island off the gulf coast of Florida. Below I have posted some collage I've done for an art journal, including one that is representative of that beautiful beach.

The four images below are part of a journal I'm planning to submit for an art show (for mixed media) next month.

Gods and Heroes

Many years ago in middle school, we studied Greek mythology. The course was called "Gods and Heroes". I love Greek and Roman statuary, so elegant. I'm not sure which goddess the lady on the right is but I was attracted to her. Here again I used some tissue paper and I used encaustic wax over that. I attached a wine glass charm as her earring.

Captiva

Two years ago my husband and I spent a glorious week on the island of Captiva off the gulf coast of Florida. There are shells everywhere on the beach. Whenever I look at this collage, I transport myself back to that luscious beach. I can smell the salt in the air. Everything moves at a slow pace. It's so peacful to sit on the beach and watch the sunset.

Orange Crush

Here I incorporated a beautiful tissue paper. The lady is a transparency.

Butterflies

I like the addition of mica in gel medium. It's not really very visible in this scan.

Closet:
1. Many different colors of Fresh Produce little v-necked tee shirts

Lifesaver

This was a fun challenge - sitting on the sidewalk curb of a very busy street in front of my house. Who knows what the drivers thought as they passed me.

Kitchen Sink

This was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. To begin with, I was trying to sketch standing up, so if it looks a little shaky..... The fawcet and water purifier handle were also challenging. I guess that's why we call them "Everyday Challenges".

Negative Space Sketch

Sometimes I would find myself forgetting to draw just the negative space and not the lines of the chair.

Ppublic Drawing

My attempt to sketch a person while he is moving all the time. In the middle of my sketch, someone else came and sat down with his back to me and interrupted my sketch, so I added a hint of him as well.

Rose

Roses are so fascinating and intricate. The separation of petals, the leaves, buds and the unfolding of the flower itself. I truly love them in all colors

Memory Drawing

After reading Karen Winter's email post on EDM, I attempted to see all that I could see and came home to draw this palm tree. It seemed simple enough LOL. An inverted triangle on top of an elongated retangle and then fill in the details as I remembered them. There are probably more branches on it than were really there, but I got carried away.

EDM Challenge - Noses

All sizes and shapes - This reminds me of Mr. Potato Head. A nose here and a mouth there --now if I could just put them all together and make it recognizable.
