Amaryllis in Bloom

Five days in the life of an Amaryllis.  I've always been fascinated with the Amaryllis and how quickly it comes into bloom, once it makes up its mind to do so.  I swear I think the stem grows 2 inches every day when it begins.
I decided to make a photo project out of its life in bloom.
Every morning I took a photo pretty much at the same time of day.  I also wanted to play with depth of field and focus-falloff for Be Still
Day 1 with Kim's "Whisper" preset
Day 2 with Kim's " On Air" preset
Day 3 with her "Organic" preset
Day 4 with "Moody-ish"
and Day 5 with Serendipitous  (I really like this one.)
and a Lightroom 4-square offset
For those of you who are reluctant to attempt Lightroom, let me say that no one could be more intimidated than I, and I agree….it's a huge learning curve, but as Kim says….oh so worth it.  I still have so much to learn and I forget along the way if I don't work with a particular technique.  I just go back to Kim's class and refresh my memory.

I've just begun Kim's Lightroom videos but haven't gotten far due to my daughter's wedding in a month. Hopefully after that I can focus. Your photos are beautiful and make me want to master Lightroom even more!

Beautiful photo essay of the amaryllis. I agree about Lightroom-huge learning curve, but totally worth it. I have had it for a few years now and am still learning all the various ways to use it.

I never realized the amaryllis grew so fast. It is such a beautiful flower. Your images are beautiful too, lovely bokeh. It is fun to play with the different Lightroom presets, so many options.

I like your idea to do a series of the blooming. So creative. My favorite is the 4 square lightroom edit -- the lighting and texture is so beautiful!

These are so awesome Marilyn. What a great idea for a series! I like day 5 also. The preset seems to punch it up for a showstopping image.

Wonderful series. I did the same thing with an amaryllis I got for Christmas. Mine was all red. Your 4-square offset is beautiful.

Marilyn, you are a fantastic artist! So beautiful and so inspiring. I am still learning about texture and most of the time I am so frustrated.

Gorgeous captures of the amaryllis! I've never heard of amaryllis before until my friend's wedding 11 years ago and I've fallen in love with them ever since.
